JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS
Josie and the Pussycats is an American animated television series, based upon the Archie Comics comic book series of the same name created by Dan DeCarlo. Produced for Saturday morning television by Hanna-Barbera Productions, reruns of the original series alternated between CBS, ABC, and NBC from 1974 through 1976. This brought its national Saturday morning TV run on three networks to six years. Josie and the Pussycats featured an all-girl pop music band that toured the world with their entourage, getting mixed up in strange adventures, spy capers, and mysteries. (More from Wikipedia)
To begin with, there are other songs in the “Stars on 45 Medley” besides those by the Beatles. A short section of “Sugar Sugar” by the Archies is near the front of the medley; they are surely the only band consisting of animated characters that reached the top of the charts. (They are not the only animated rock band, however: Many of you might remember Josie and the Pussycats, who were featured in one of the very few Saturday morning cartoon series that ever focused on a group of women; they also released an album in 1970).
