High Anxiety (Movie Soundtrack) / Mel Brooks’ Greatest Hits (1978):  The front cover makes this appear to be the soundtrack album for High Anxiety, but the record label identifies the record as Mel Brooks’ Greatest Hits, and there are several movie posters for his other films shown on the back cover.  Mel Brooks has been one of the most successful American moviemakers when it comes to comedies.  Over the years, his productions have satirized Westerns (Blazing Saddles), horror movies (Young Frankenstein), and Star Wars (Spaceballs).  High Anxiety is Mel Brooks’ homage to Alfred Hitchcock movies and features Mel Brooks in a starring role, although he has frequent bit parts in his other films (Alfred Hitchcock made a cameo appearance in all of his films as a matter of fact).  Side 1 of this album features music from High Anxiety, including the title song “High Anxiety” that Mel Brooks performs in full-on lounge-singer mode; while Side 2 gives musical selections from his other films.  “Springtime for Hitler” comes from one of his earliest and best films, The Producers (1967), where a crooked musical producer conceives of overselling the rights to a certain Broadway flop, which is a loving tribute to Adolf Hitler.  The scheme backfires when the audience decides that it is an hilarious satire instead.  The Producers was later a hit Broadway musical in 2001 that won a record 12 Tony Awards.
