Loverboy

LOVERBOY

Loverboy  is a Canadian rock group formed in 1979 in Calgary, Alberta.  Throughout the 1980’s, the band accumulated numerous hit songs in Canada and the United States, earning four multi-platinum albums and selling millions of records.  The band’s hit singles, particularly “Turn Me Loose” and “Working for the Weekend”, have become arena rock staples and are still heard on many classic rock and classic hits radio stations across the United States and Canada.  They are currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia.  (More from Wikipedia)

Eric Carmen penned several songs that were hits for others as well, including “Almost Paradise” from the Footloose soundtrack, which was a duet by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson, the lead singers of Loverboy and Heart, respectively.

Other Canadian rockers include Bryan Adamsk.d. langRushLoverboyKlaatuKate and Anna McGarrigle, and so many more.  Anna McGarrigle wrote the title song “Heart Like a Wheel” on Linda Ronstadt’s 1974 breakthrough album, Heart Like a Wheel that was later used as the name of a 1983 film also called Heart Like a Wheel about drag racer Shirley Muldowney; while Kate McGarrigle was married to Chapel Hill-born singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III whose union resulted in the birth of two more musicians, Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright.  I have a CD somewhere that features the whole family if I remember right.
