Facebook 2014

FACEBOOK – 2014

Mick Farren is a perfect example of what this series of Facebook posts is all about.  Yes, I always talk about an Under-Appreciated Rock Musician or an Under-Appreciated Rock Artist, and I certainly want to let people know about them.  But even more, I want to spread the word about truly important and seminal rock musicians and bands that the great majority of rock music fans know almost nothing about.

Well, I did it again; I exceeded the 65,535-character limit for a Facebook post and only had room for the Mick Farren tribute.

As of the first week of 2014, the Richmond Sluts have a Facebook page – www.facebook.com/richmondsluts – and considerable information about the band can be found there, such as their self-description:  “Hailing from the Richmond District of San Franciscothe Richmond Sluts are a revved up rock n roll band that is timeless.  With influences from garage, punk, psych, and rock n rollthe Richmond Sluts are guaranteed to make you move, sweat, dance, and leave you begging for more. . . .”

I had to dig around quite a lot on the Internet (as usual); one entry on Mikki is by a kindred spirit who writes about Rare and Obscure Music on Facebook:  www.facebook.com/pages/Rare-and-Obscure-Music/133581693333210 .

At long last, my UARB posts are beginning to come up at high positions on Google searches.  A few days ago, I looked for Schattenfreiheit and their album Nachgedanken – they are not officially a UARB, though I talked about them in the post for past UARB Queen Anne’s Lace – and I was thrilled to see my UARB post show up second in the search.  Of course, there were only 10 results today for that search (and just 4 the other day).  However, just now a Google search for “the Invisible Eyes band” (with no quote marks) generated 17,600,000 results; and my original Facebook post for the band was #2 on that search also.  That is truly thrilling for me; Wikipedia entries come up high on a Google search more or less automatically, so I missed seeing high placement on Google for my work.
