JEFFREY ARCHER

Jeffrey Archer,  Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare (born 15 April 1940) is an English novelist and politician.  Before becoming an author, Archer was a Member of Parliament (1969–1974), but did not seek re-election after a financial scandal that left him almost bankrupt.  He revived his fortunes as a best-selling novelist; his books have sold around 330 million copies worldwide.  Archer became deputy chairman of the Conservative Party (1985–1986) before resigning after a newspaper accused him of paying money to a prostitute.  In 1987, he won a court case and was awarded large damages because of this claim.  He was made a life peer in 1992.  (More from Wikipedia)

Beat Street was actually the second choice by Lightning Strike for their first single.  As related by Paul Fischer:  “Debut single was due to be live favorite ‘Exocet Alley’, a blast of Rick Rubin-esque rap-rock via Sigue Sigue Sputnik, which derided Jeffrey Archer in the lyrics.”  Jeffrey Archer is a Conservative Party politician in England who had been caught with a prostitute in 1986.  In July 1987Archer launched a high-profile libel suit against one newspaper who reported the story, the Daily Star; and the record label decided to pass on the release.
