Forever Changes album cover

Love – Forever Changes (1967):  Love is one of the few psychedelic rock bands to be led by an African American, guitarist Arthur LeeForever Changes is their third album and their acknowledged masterpiece, and the album features most of the songs for which Love is so renowned.  At the time of its release, Forever Changes made minimal impact on the charts, though most record reviews were favorable.  As Mark Deming notes about Forever Changes in his retrospective review for Allmusic:  “[Y]ears later it became recognized as one of the finest and most haunting albums to come out of the Summer of Love [1967], which doubtless has as much to do with the disc’s themes and tone as the music, beautiful as it is. . . .  Forever Changes is also an album that heralds the last days of a golden age and anticipates the growing ugliness that would dominate the counterculture in 1968 and 1969.”  In 2008, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame; and in 2011, the album was added to the National Recording Registry.
