Please, Please, Please album cover

James Brown and His Famous Flames – Please, Please, Please (1958):  This is the debut album of James Brown and His Famous Flames, with the group’s first two hits, “Please, Please, Please” and “Try Me” as the opening cuts on each side.  The intervening singles released in the two years between these hits were flops, and the other songs on the album Please, Please, Please show a major artist struggling to find his sound.  “Please, Please, Please” became James Brown’s signature song; during its performance near the end of his more recent concerts, Brown typically collapsed on stage as though exhausted and had a succession of capes thrown over him as he began to crawl off stage before he jumped up and returned to the microphone to continue the song.
