Kill the Poor

KILL THE POOR

“Kill the Poor”  was the third single by the Dead Kennedys.  The record was released in October 1980 on Cherry Red Records with “In-sight” as the b-side.  The title track was re-recorded for the band’s first album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables (1980), although the single and album versions show little difference in comparison.  The b-side for this single is available on the rarities album Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death (1987).  “Kill the Poor” reached #49 in the UK Singles Chart, spending three weeks on the chart.  (More from Wikipedia)

In certain circles at least, Dead Kennedys are as well known as the Grateful Dead.  They are the founders of hardcore punk in the San Francisco Bay area, though most of that action was in Los Angeles.  Their 1980 debut album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables is one of the landmark punk rock albums of all time and includes most of their well-known songs, such as “California Über Alles”, “Holiday in Cambodia”, “Kill the Poor”, and a cover of “Viva Las Vegas”.
