Johnny Winter

JOHNNY WINTER

Johnny Winter  (February 23, 1944 – July 16, 2014) was an American blues guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer. Best known for his high-energy blues-rock albums and live performances in the late 1960's and 1970's, Winter also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for blues singer and guitarist Muddy Waters.  After his time with Waters, Winter recorded several Grammy-nominated blues albums.  2003, he was ranked 63rd in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".   (More from Wikipedia)

Rick Zehringer of the McCoys ("Hang on Sloopy") later changed his name to Rick Derringer, and he recorded and toured extensively with Johnny Winter and his brother, Edgar Winter.  Rick Derringer had his own one-hit wonder experience in 1973 with his song "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" (Johnny Winter had previously covered "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" a few years earlier).
