Todd Rundgren

TODD RUNDGREN

Todd Rundgren  (born June 22, 1948) is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and record producer.  A native of Philadelphia, Rundgren began his professional career in the mid 1960s, forming the psychedelic band Nazz in 1967.  Hailed in the early stage of his career as a pop wunderkind for both his own material and for his production of other artists, supported by the certified gold solo double LP Something/Anything? in 1972, his career has produced a diverse and eclectic range of recordings often both as a solo artist and as a member of the band Utopia.  Rundgren has often been at the forefront as a promoter of cutting edge recording technologies.  His best-known songs include “Hello It’s Me” and “I Saw the Light”, which have heavy rotation on classic rock radio stations, and “Bang the Drum All Day”, which is featured in many sports arenas, commercials, and movie trailers.  (More from Wikipedia)

Most of the credits on unfamiliar albums are going to be unfamiliar names as well, but every now and then, you will spot a famous person.  Look for the record producer for instance; depending upon your own personal tastes, if John Doe (of X) or Todd Rundgren or Dave Edmunds is involved, and you are a fan, that would increase the chances that you would like the album.

Richard Perry was the producer on the first three albums by Fanny:  Fanny (1970), Charity Ball (1971) and Fanny Hill (1972); while Todd Rundgren produced their fourth album (the only one that I don’t have), Mother’s Pride
