This Is Spinal Tap

THIS IS SPINAL TAP

This Is Spinal Tap  is a 1984 American rock music mockumentary comedy film written, scored by, and starring Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer.  The film portrays the fictional British heavy metal band Spinal Tap.  Directed by Reiner, the movie satirizes the wild personal behavior and musical pretensions of hard rock and heavy metal bands, as well as the hagiographic tendencies of rock documentaries of the time.  The three actors play their musical instruments and speak with mock English accents throughout the movie.  Reiner appears as Marty Di Bergi, the maker of the documentary.  In 2002, This Is Spinal Tap was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation by the United States National Film Registry.  (More from Wikipedia)

Cherie Currie and Sandy West occasionally played in bands together; West formed the Sandy West Band and toured California throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s before succumbing to cancer in 2006.  Cherie Currie is still a musician, including a band that she was in briefly with another former RunawayVicki Blue, called the Currie-Blue Band; they never recorded any music but did appear together in the film This Is Spinal Tap.  Currie’s passion now is as a chainsaw artist.

The bandmembers in the Runaways were all young girls when the band was formed – much as “runaways” are in real life – and several went on to successful musical careers, among them Joan JettMicki Steele (later in the Bangles), and heavy metal chanteuse Lita Ford

Two of the bandmembers were also featured in major motion pictures; Cherie Currie appeared in the 1980 film Foxes and also (with Vicki Blue) in the 1984 cult classic This Is Spinal Tap
