Snoop Dogg

Greatly Appreciated

SNOOP DOGG

Snoop Dogg, originally Snoop Doggy Dogg  (born Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.; October 20, 1971) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, television personality and actor.  His music career began in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr. Dre, and as a result he was featured on Dre’s solo debut, “Deep Cover”, and then on Dr. Dre’s solo debut album, The Chronic.  Snoop’s debut album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre and released in 1993 through Death Row Records, debuted at number one on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.  He has since sold over 23 million albums in the United States and 35 million albums worldwide.  Snoop holds the dubious distinction of having 17 Grammy nominations without a win.  (More from Wikipedia)

Snoop Dogg (originally Snoop Doggy Dogg) was discovered in 1992 by one of the bandmembers in N.W.A.Dr. Dre; he has been seemingly omnipresent in the entertainment scene ever since.  Snoop became known for his nearly unintelligible, mumbled speeches at music awards shows and other such, often featuring his own vocabulary, such as “fo shizzle”.

Snoop Dogg was featured prominently on Dr. Dre’s debut solo album, The Chronic (1992).  Snoop’s first album, Doggystyle (1993) debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums chart and sold more than 800,000 copies in its first week, a record at that time for a debut album.  Snoop Dogg has released 13 albums, including his most recent, Coolaid (2016).

Since I am down to a quarterly schedule rather than a monthly schedule, my annual list is a lot shorter, so I will try listing all of the people that I have discussed in some depth rather than just the Under Appreciated Rock Band and the Story of the Month. They are all punk rock bands of one kind or another this year (2015-2016), and the most recent post includes my overview of the early rap/hip hop scene that an old friend, George Konstantinow challenged me to write – probably so long ago that he might have forgotten.
