The Simpsons

THE SIMPSONS

The Simpsons  is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company.  The series is a satirical depiction of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by the Simpson family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.  The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.  In 2009, it surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest-running American scripted primetime television series.  The Simpsons has received widespread critical acclaim.  Time magazine named it the 20th century’s best television series, and The A.V. Club named it “television’s crowning achievement regardless of format”.   (More from Wikipedia)

Sometimes rock musicians go into an entirely different line of work:  Danny Elfman for instance has become one of the leading writers of Hollywood movie scores.  He has written the music for the majority of the films by Tim Burton, beginning with Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and including the 1989 Batman movie, for which he won an Academy Award (he has been nominated three other times).  Elfman has also done a lot of television work, including the theme song for The Simpsons.  Beginning in the early 1970’s and through the mid-1990’s, he was also the front man for the quirky band Oingo Boingo
