The Runaways Album

Greatly Appreciated

THE RUNAWAYS

The Runaways  is the debut album by the American all-female rock band The Runaways, released in 1976.  Website AllMusic has praised the record (especially band members Cherie Currie, Joan Jett and Lita Ford), comparing the band’s music to material by Led Zeppelin and The Stooges.  (More from Wikipedia)

At this point, the Runaways was signed by Mercury Records and released their first album, The Runaways in 1976.  The credits for the bandmembers on the back of the album included their ages (most were 16 or younger as I recall), thus cementing Kim Fowley’s Svengali reputation.  Fowley refused to let Jackie Fox play on the debut album, so Blondie bass guitarist Nigel Harrison filled in.

I wrote about the Runaways in some detail about a year ago, so I won’t say too much more about them now.  But I will mention this.  I have previously noted that their first album, The Runaways listed the bandmembers’ ages on the back cover.  For the record, they are a little older than I had remembered (or at least they were by the time the album was released):  Joan Jett (16), Sandy West (16), Cherie Currie (16), Jackie Fox (16), and Lita Ford (17).
