Kraftwerk

KRAFTWERK

Kraftwerk  (German for “power station”) are a German electronic music band formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970 in Düsseldorf, and fronted by them until Schneider’s departure in 2008.  The signature Kraftwerk sound combines driving, repetitive rhythms with catchy melodies, mainly following a Western classical style of harmony, with a minimalistic and strictly electronic instrumentation.  The group’s simplified lyrics are at times sung through a vocoder or generated by computer-speech software.  Kraftwerk were one of the first groups to popularize electronic music and are considered pioneers in the field.   (More from Wikipedia)

While in my 20’s (in the late 1970’s), I got to know three brothers in Raleigh; and the youngest of them was really into music.  Unlike the last time, when I was still in high school, I was a little more grown up; I still didn’t really take notes, but I would often buy records by some of these bands.  The bands that he introduced me to include the Pink Fairies and Hawkwind, still two of my all-time favorite groups; Styx; Be-Bop Deluxe; and Kraftwerk.
