EPIC RECORDS

Epic Records  is an American record company that serves as a division of Sony Music Entertainment Inc.  Epic was founded in 1953, predominantly as a jazz music label, but later converted to produce a variety of genres.  Over the years, the label has housed popular acts such as Dave Clark Five, Sly & the Family Stone, Michael Jackson, Céline Dion, Luther Vandross, Shakira, Sade, Modest Mouse, and Jennifer Lopez.  Today, the label is handled by two CEOs, L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone, and is one of the three main labels for Sony Music; with the other two divisions being Columbia and RCA Records.  (More from Wikipedia)

Trillion was quickly signed by Epic Records after its formation and went to work on their first album.  Their producer, Gary Lyons had just put together Foreigner’s first album, Foreigner.  However, their 1978 debut album, Trillion sold only modestly.

In the 1978 film, The Buddy Holly StoryGary Busey stars as Buddy Holly in an Oscar-nominated performance; Busey even performs the songs himself rather than having them dubbed in, as is the usual custom.  Gary Busey was previously in a rock band called Carp; I have a copy of their debut self-titled album, Carp that was released on Epic Records in 1969

Poco became one of the earliest and most long-lived country-rock bands.  Several record companies were interested in signing the new act, but they hit a road block:  Richie Furay and Jim Messina were still signed to Atlantic Records as part of Buffalo Springfield.  Meanwhile, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were having the same problem getting signed.  David Geffen, then a young talent scout, arranged for the recording contracts for Stephen Stills and Neil Young to be swapped for those of Richie Furay and Jim Messina, so that CSNY could be signed to Atlantic Records, and Poco could be signed to Epic Records
