The Searchers – This Is Us (1964):  The Searchers are from Liverpool and released a series of irresistibly sunny singles and albums with strong harmonies during the British Invasion period.  While one of their biggest hits “Sugar and Spice” was written by their record producer, most of the Searchers’ early hits were remakes of American pop and R&B songs:  “Sweets for My Sweet”, “Needles and Pins”, “When You Walk in the Room”, “Don’t Throw Your Love Away”, and “Love Potion No. 9”.  Technically at least, This Is Us is the American version of the Searchers’ third album It’s the Searchers; however, six songs on the British album – including one of their biggest hit songs “Needles and Pins” – were dropped in favor of some B-sides and album cuts.  This Is Us still provides a good sampling of the original Searchers sound and includes fine songs like “Love Potion No. 9”, “Don’t Throw Your Love Away”, “Hi-Heel Sneakers”, “The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in Her Kiss)”, “Where Have You Been (All My Life)”, and “Sea of Heartbreak”.
