The Rascals/The Young Rascals – Time! Peace! The Rascals’ Greatest Hits (1968):  The Rascals are one of the greatest blue-eyed soul bands of the 1960’s or any other decade.  They were first known as the Young Rascals for a few years; I remember reruns of the Our Gang comedy shorts being televised on a show called The Young Rascals when I was a kid, and maybe that was true nationwide.  Unlike many of their contemporaries, the Rascals wrote most of their own songs, although they also scored fine covers of soul classics like “Mustang Sally” and “In the Midnight Hour”.  Coming along during the later years of the British Invasion, and despite being an American band, their songs are among the brightest and most charming of the era, such as “I Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore”, “Good Lovin’ ”, “How Can I Be Sure”, “Groovin’ ”, “A Girl Like You”, “It’s Wonderful”, “A Beautiful Morning”, and their #1 hit “People Got to Be Free”.
