Wilson Pickett – Mr. Magic Man (1973):  Wilson Pickett was a soul music star in the 1960’s who had some of the finest hits of the era, “In the Midnight Hour”, “Land of 1000 Dances”, “Mustang Sally”, and “Funky Broadway” among them.  While not so versatile as, say, Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett had one of the best soul versions of a Beatles song with his recording of “Hey Jude” (1968) that featured guitar by a young Duane Allman.  Mr. Magic Man was Wilson Pickett’s first album for RCA Victor Records and came out after Wilson Pickett’s main recording career had ended.  There are no hits on Mr. Magic Man, but the album is a very enjoyable soul collection, with Wilson Pickett co-writing all but two of the songs.
