Nuggets, Volume Three – Pop (Various Artists) (1984):  Sadly, THE Nuggets double album of American garage rock and psychedelic rock songs from the 1960’sNuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968 (1972) – still hasn’t shown up for cleaning.  But there are other albums in the series that also have numerous classics from that period.  Songs on Nuggets, Volume Three – Pop include “Time Won’t Let Me” by the Outsiders; the two hits by the Cyrkle, “Turn Down Day” and “Red Rubber Ball”; “Sugar and Spice” by the Cryan’ Shames; the Beatles soundalike “Lies” by the Knickerbockers; and other songs by the Spiral Starecase, the Bobby Fuller Four, and Boyce & Hart.  (Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart wrote numerous songs for the Monkees and later formed a group in the mid-1970’s with two of their bandmembers called Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart).  The real gem on this collection is “I Love You” by a band called People!, with lead vocals by one of the pioneers of Christian rock music, Larry Norman.  Nuggets, Volume Three – Pop and many other Nuggets albums were released on Rhino Records, one of the most beloved American record labels of all time.  The Rhino name and logo survive today as Rhino Entertainment, the catalogue division of the Warner Music Group conglomerate.
