Malcolm McLaren – Duck Rock (1983):  Malcolm McLaren is best known as the manager of the landmark British punk rock band Sex Pistols that disintegrated during their American tour after leaving behind a powerful album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols (1977) and several stray singles.  Also, after Adam Ant became a solo artist and escaped with the band name, Malcolm McLaren assembled the remaining musicians in Adam and the Ants as the backing band for a barely pubescent Anglo-Burmese singer named Annabella Lwin for a band that was dubbed Bow Wow Wow.  With Duck Rock, Malcolm McLaren took a stab at being a recording artist himself.  Musicians working with McLaren on Duck Rock include Thomas Dolby, who had released his hit song “She Blinded Me with Science” the year before; plus Trevor Horn, Anne Dudley, and J. J. Jeczalik who formed Art of Noise.  Recordings that they put together while working on Duck Rock became their first EP, Into Battle with the Art of Noise (1983).  Previously, Trevor Horn gained international fame as one-half of the Buggles, when their song “Video Killed the Radio Star” became the first music video shown on MTV when it went on the air on August 1, 1981.  The music on Duck Rock covers sounds literally from around the world; from Wikipedia:  “The album mixes up styles from South Africa, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the United States, including hip hop.”  The two singles from Duck Rock, “Buffalo Gals” and “Double Dutch” charted at #9 and #3, respectively, on the U.K. singles chart; and the songs also made the Dance Club charts in the U.S.  Duck Rock is credited with helping to establish hip hop music in Great Britain.
