Little Feat – Time Loves a Hero (1977):  Little Feat was one of the most eclectic of the numerous Southern California rock bands in the 1970’sLittle Feat was founded in 1969 by Lowell George (vocals, guitar, slide guitar) and Roy Estrada (bass); they had previously been among the many bandmembers in Frank Zappa’s avant garde rock band known as the Mothers of Invention, and songwriting genius Lowell George had an extensive musical career before that.  Drummer Richie Hayward and keyboardist Billy Payne rounded out the initial line-up.  Time Loves a Hero is the sixth album by Little Feat; and the title song “Time Loves a Hero” was a major hit for the band.  Tensions were high among the bandmembers when this album was being made, however, with Lowell George having little input and writing just one of the songs.  Lowell George died just two years later, and Little Feat broke up shortly thereafter, with Billy Payne joining the backing band for Linda Ronstadt.  She has said that the Lowell George song “Willin’ ” – included on Linda Ronstadt’s breakthrough album Heart Like a Wheel (1974) – is her favorite song to perform in concert.
