Kid ’N Play – 2 Hype (1988): I bought the first album by Kid ’N Play, 2 Hype – mostly because of the hair, I admit, since I really didn’t know anything else about them – and found it to be a really enjoyable record. Kid ’N Play might be termed the antithesis of gangsta rap; the cover shot is about as non-threatening as you can get, and the music is about innocent teenage concerns like friendship, dancing, and dating. The album producer is Hurby ‘Luv Bug’ Azor, who is best known for discovering Salt-n-Pepa.
