Jethro Tull – Living in the Past (1972):  Unlike the usual “Greatest Hits” and “Best Of” albums that rock bands typically release at about this point in their careers – Jethro Tull was founded in 1967 (the band is named for an 18th Century British agricultural scientist named Jethro Tull) – Living in the Past is more like a carefully selected grab bag (“Living in the Past” is also one of their better known songs), with numerous tracks from their albums, most of their non-LP singles, and a side devoted to their 1970 concert at the landmark performance space Carnegie Hall in New York City, plus out-takes and EP tracks.  Although most of Ekseption’s first album Ekseption (1969) is composed of classical music selections, one of these songs, “Dharma for One” is the second track on the album.  The bandleader of Jethro Tull is flautist Ian Anderson; woodwinds are rare in rock music, and for ages, I confused Anderson with woodwind player Ian McDonald in the first incarnation of King Crimson (both are early British progressive rock bands).  Ian McDonald was later a founding member of a much different band, Foreigner.
