INXS – X (1990): INXS (“in excess”) are Australian superstars who savvily melded dance pop, new wave, funk, and Rolling-Stones–style rock into a winning formula for a number of years. I probably ordered this record thinking it was a retrospective album; then, I thought maybe X was their tenth album, per the Roman numeral, but that wasn’t it either. X is actually the seventh album by INXS and the follow-up to their best-selling album Kick (1987) that featured four massive hit songs, all quite different: “Need You Tonight”, “Devil Inside”, “New Sensation”, and “Never Tear Us Apart”. X continues the hitmaking ways of INXS with two Top 10 U.S. hits, “Suicide Blonde” and “Disappear”, plus two other singles, “Bitter Tears” and “By My Side”.
