First Pull Up, Then Pull Down album cover

Hot Tuna – First Pull Up, Then Pull Down (1971):  Hot Tuna was started as an acoustic band by two of the founding members of Jefferson Airplane, Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen; they are lifelong friends who had grown up together in Washington, D.C.  Also on hand was another member of the Airplane, electric violinist Papa John Creach, who was much older than the other members of either band.  Other Jefferson Airplane bandmembers, such as Marty Balin and Spencer Dryden, occasionally played with Hot Tuna as well, though not on this album.  First Pull Up, Then Pull Down is Hot Tuna’s second album, by which point they were no longer an acoustic band.  The album highlight is “Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning”; a live performance of “Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning” by Hot Tuna is included on Fillmore: The Last Days (1971).
