Kid Blue album cover

Louise Goffin – Kid Blue (1979):  Kid Blue is the debut album by Louise Goffin, the teenaged daughter of Gerry Goffin and Carole King.  They were one of the very best songwriting couples during the 1960’s, and Carole King later had probably the most storied career of any female singer-songwriter, with her album Tapestry (1971) selling over 14 million copies.  Linda Ronstadt mentioned seeing Louise Goffin in concert once in an interview and loving what she heard, so I picked this album up when I came across it.  Kid Blue is a pleasant album from someone who was surrounded by music growing up and decided to give it a try herself.  But it is also a serious album, with none of the sordid sexualized trappings often attached to teen pop, particularly these days.  Louise Goffin wrote or co-wrote most of the songs; the covers include a Beatles song, “All I’ve Got to Do”, and one of the spookiest girl-group songs I have ever heard (and a long-time favorite of mine), “Remember (Walking in the Sand)”, originally by the Shangri-Las.  Louise Goffin released two more albums over the next few years and later an acclaimed comeback album in 2002, Sometimes a Circle.
