The Electric Flag – A Long Time Comin’ (1968): The Electric Flag was assembled by ace guitarist Michael Bloomfield – who (along with Al Kooper) was a backing musician for Bob Dylan’s signature song “Like a Rolling Stone” – and featured a large and star-studded line-up: Buddy Miles (drums, vocals), Barry Goldberg (keyboards), Harvey Brooks (bass), Nick Gravenites (vocals, guitar), etc. Their debut album, A Long Time Comin’ opens with a faux LBJ speech and launches from there into Howlin’ Wolf’s “Killing Floor”. Other standout songs include “Groovin’ Is Easy” and “Wine”. Surprisingly, the Electric Flag is not nearly so well-known as they should be.
