Jonathan Edwards Album album cover

Jonathan Edwards – Jonathan Edwards (1971):  After adapting his given name slightly to match that of the 18th Century American revivalist preacher Jonathan Edwards (it is rather hard for me to forget my learning about his sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” in grade school), this singer-songwriter was the epitome of a “long-haired country boy” when this album came out.  Edwards had trouble fitting into the music scene in the 1970’s – too urbane for country, and probably too country for rock and roll.  The opening song on Side 2, “Sunshine” was a #4 hit song for EdwardsJonathan Edwards has recorded fine albums steadily ever since, but he has never scored another hit song.
