Dire Straits Album album cover

Dire Straits – Dire Straits (1978):  The English rock band Dire Straits is anchored by the fine guitar work, lead vocals, and songwriting of Mark Knopfler.  The band’s first hit song “Sultans of Swing” is included on Dire Straits and is still played regularly on oldies radio.  For what it’s worth, I have always thought that Mark Knopfler sounds a lot like Bob Dylan, but no one else seems to hear what I hear.  After Dylan heard “Sultans of Swing”, he contacted Mark Knopfler about working on an album together.  That album was the first and best known of Bob Dylan’s Christian albums, Slow Train Coming (1979), which produced the hit song “Gotta Serve Somebody”.
