Creedence Clearwater Revival – More Creedence Gold (1973):  One of the greatest American rock bands, Creedence Clearwater Revival helped bring rock music back to its roots, offering a rich brew of country, swamp rock, R&B, and rockabilly that often had psychedelic flourishes.  Primarily known for their numerous hit singles (oddly enough, I heard once that none of their hits made it to #1), I actually like their albums even better, where there are often extended jams.  CCR’s first hit song was the swamp-rock classic “Suzie Q” (written by Dale Hawkins and previously recorded by the Rolling Stones).  This was the only hit song by Creedence Clearwater Revival that was not written by bandleader John Fogerty, and that might have given the band the idea to masquerade as being from somewhere like Louisiana, when they actually hailed from the San Francisco Bay Area.  As might be expected, More Creedence Gold is their second greatest-hits album and includes classics like “Run Through the Jungle”, “Fortunate Son”, “Who’ll Stop the Rain”, “Lodi”, “Up Around the Bend”, and many more.
