Commodores – Midnight Magic (1979):  Commodores were one of the top bands in more recent times for Motown Records and, by now, might be best remembered as the springboard for bandmember Lionel Richie’s long solo career.  And that would be a shame, since Commodores had seven #1 hits and released more than 50 albums.  Commodores were always more eclectic than the typical R&B band, with hard funk songs cheek-by-jowl with adult contemporary numbers.  Midnight Magic is the band’s seventh album and includes two of their biggest hits, their second #1 pop hit “Still” and the #4 song “Sail On”.
