Ray Charles / Harry Belafonte – The Greatest Ever! (1969): This is a collection of early songs by two of the greats, with six from Ray Charles and four from Harry Belafonte; if the packaging could be regarded as a clue, the Belafonte music might have been thrown in at the last minute. Despite the title, The Greatest Ever! is not a “greatest hits” collection by any means – no “What’d I Say”, no “Day-O” – but instead an enjoyable selection of recordings that were nearly all unfamiliar to me when I purchased the album.
