Yeah! album cover

Brownsville Station – Yeah! (1973):  Brownsville Station is best known for their million-selling hit “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” that closes the album.  There is only one other song on Yeah! that was written by the bandmembers, but the choice of covers is as good as it gets – everyone from Lou Reed to Hoyt Axton to then-unknown Jimmy Cliff gets the Brownsville Station treatment.  The opening track, “A Question of Temperature” was originally released by a New Jersey garage rock band called the Balloon Farm in 1968.  Its selection illustrates guitarist and vocalist Cub Koda’s encyclopedic knowledge of rock and roll that would serve him well in his second career as a noted rock music critic.  “Smokin’ in the Boys Room” later became the first Top 40 hit by Mötley Crüe in 1985.
