Revolution of the Mind album cover

James Brown – Revolution of the Mind (1972):  Subtitled “Recorded Live at the Apollo, Vol. III”, Revolution of the Mind followed the 1968 release of a second James Brown concert at Harlem’s Apollo Theatre in 1967 as Live at the Apollo, Vol. II.  This double album documents a more conventional James Brown concert there in 1971, in that it concentrated on his recent singles rather than his classic early songs.  Not even “Please, Please, Please” is performed, and there is a short medley of three hits on Side 3.  Side 2 is mostly devoted to a leisurely introduction of the bandmembers over the song “Make it Funky”.  In the spirit of the legendary 1962 concert at the Apollo that was given on the reissue album Live and Lowdown at the Apollo, Vol. 1 (1980), “Get up, Get into it, Get Involved” is divided between Sides 3 and 4.
