Parallel Lines album cover

Blondie – Parallel Lines (1978):  Blondie is one of the premier American new wave bands and started out with a punk edge.  Their third album Parallel Lines is Blondie’s commercial breakthrough and features their #1 hit “Heart of Glass”, with the opening track “Hanging on the Telephone” (written by Jack Lee of the Nerves) being every bit as good.  Other highlights on the album are “Picture This”, “One Way or Another”, and “11:59”.  More adventurous material would follow on later Blondie albums, including the hit song “Rapture” (released in January 1981) that features a rap section and helped bring hip hop music to MTV.
