The Beat (Various Artists) (1982):  This collection of new wave songs still sounds fresh to me and includes smash hits by Duran Duran (“Girls on Film”) and the Go-Go’s (“We Got the Beat”); “I Ran (So Far Away)” by A Flock of Seagulls; and Bow Wow Wow’s cover of the Strangeloves classic “I Want Candy”.  Many of the songs were not major hits, however, lending the album added interest by this point.  The Beat came out on K-Tel Records; despite their annoying TV commercials, the K-Tel albums often delivered the goods.
