Joan Baez Hits Greatest album cover

Joan Baez – Hits / Greatest & Others (1973):  Other than Bob Dylan, Joan Baez is perhaps the finest exponent of the 1960’s folk revival (male or female) and has released dozens of albums over her long career beginning in 1960.  Although Baez is a first-rate songwriter, Hits / Greatest & Others primarily features songs written by others, including her cover of “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” (sung more appropriately as a celebration rather than as a dirge in the original version of “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” by The Band), two Beatles songs, and two Bob Dylan songs.  Joan Baez and Bob Dylan were an “item” in the early 1960’s, and her greater fame helped establish Dylan as a recording artist early in his career.  One of the two Bob Dylan songs on this album, “Love Is Just a Four Letter Word” was never recorded by Dylan himself.
