The B-52’s – Wild Planet (1980):  This quirky new wave band hailed from the music mecca of Athens, Georgia; other bands from Athens include R.E.M. and Pylon.  Featuring two female vocalists, Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson in counterpoint with the rather harsh vocals of Fred Schneider, the music by the B-52’s has unusual syncopation and rhythms.  While there are no big hits on Wild Planet, the songs have all of the fun that this band never fails to delivers.  The new wave scene, and in particular the B-52’s reminded John Lennon of his wife Yoko Ono’s early avant garde recordings; and this led to an outpouring of songwriting and recording work from the two of them, resulting in their hit album Double Fantasy and a second album called Milk and Honey that was released after John Lennon’s senseless murder.
