41 Original Hits from the Soundtrack of American Graffiti (Various Artists) (1973): American Graffiti is an early film from two of the greatest American filmmakers in recent history, George Lucas (director) and Francis Ford Coppola (producer). The soundtrack album for this coming-of-age movie, 41 Original Hits from the Soundtrack of American Graffiti was lovingly assembled and represents an unsurpassed primer of early doo-wop, R&B, and rock and roll music. The title is not entirely accurate; while 39 are hit songs by the original artists and come from the 1950’s and early 1960’s, two songs are performed by one of the first rock and roll revival bands, Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids, with “She’s So Fine” being written by two of the members of that band. Now known as Flash Cadillac, they appeared in the dance party sequence in the film as Herby and the Heartbeats. Likewise, the movie’s tagline, “Where Were You in ’62?” is also incorrect – one of the two songs by the Beach Boys, “All Summer Long” was recorded in 1964.
