Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass – The Lonely Bull (1962): Built around their #6 hit single “The Lonely Bull”, The Lonely Bull is the debut album by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Herb Alpert was able to carve out a successful recording career from instrumental music, a feat that was becoming increasingly difficult by that time. The only vocal recording by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass that I am aware of is the 1968 release “This Guy’s in Love with You”, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Not incidentally, and having a catalogue number of 101S, The Lonely Bull is the very first album on A&M Records, one of the finest independent record labels ever. A&M Records was co-founded by Herb Alpert.
