WHAT IS THIS?
What Is This? is an album by rock band What Is This?, released in 1985. The album was produced by Todd Rundgren, who also played Fairlight synthesizer on it. A cover version of the track “Chasing Your Ghost” is featured on the so-called Re)production album of Todd Rundgren released in 2011. According to the album, Hillel Slovak plays guitar except on “Chasing Your Ghost”, “Whisper (To Natasha)” and “I'll Be Around”; later he left What Is This? to rejoin the Red Hot Chili Peppers to record their second album Freaky Styley. In the following year (1985), What Is This? released their only full-length album, What Is This? plus a live EP, 3 out of 5 Live. After that, What Is This? broke up, and Jack Irons returned to Red Hot Chili Peppers also. According to Wikipedia, the band's third album, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan (1987) is the only Red Hot Chili Peppers album to feature all four original members – Hillel Slovak, Jack Irons, Flea and Anthony Kiedis – on each track.
