Stop Making Sense

STOP MAKING SENSE

Stop Making Sense  is a 1984 concert movie featuring a live performance by Talking Heads.  Directed by Jonathan Demme, it was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December 1983, as the group was touring to promote their new album Speaking in Tongues.  The movie is notable for being the first made entirely using digital audio techniques.  The film has been hailed by Leonard Maltin as “one of the greatest rock movies ever made”, and Pauline Kael of The New Yorker described it as “. . . close to perfection”.  (More from Wikipedia)

Talking Heads had several hit songs and albums and rock videos, as well as a concert film, Stop Making Sense; they were also a favorite of rock critics throughout the 1980’s.  Favorites of mine include “Burning down the House”, “Psycho Killer” and “Life During Wartime”; actually the official title of the last song is Life During Wartime (This Ain’t No Party . . . This Ain’t No Disco . . . This Ain’t No Foolin’ Around), and it is one of the longest song titles ever.
