Slade

SLADE

Slade  are an English glam rock band from Wolverhampton.  They rose to prominence during the early 1970s with 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number ones on the UK Singles Chart.  The British Hit Singles & Albums names them as the most successful British group of the 1970s based on sales of singles.  As of 2006, total UK sales stand at 6,520,171; and their best-selling single, “Merry Xmas Everybody”, has sold in excess of one million copies.  The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Music tells of Noddy Holder’s powerful vocals, guitarist Dave Hill’s equally arresting dress sense, and the deliberate misspelling of their song titles (such as “Cum On Feel the Noize”) for which they became well known.  (More from Wikipedia)

Kim Fowley worked with the N’Betweens and produced one of their singles, “You Better Run” that was released in December 1966; this band later evolved into Slade.  Fowley also produced the flip side of the first single by the Soft Machine, “Feelin’ Reelin’ Squeelin’” that came out in early 1967.  Jimi Hendrix is rumored to have played rhythm guitar on the track; he was recording “Hey Joe” at the same studio.
