Screaming Lord Sutch

SCREAMING LORD SUTCH

Screaming Lord Sutch  (born David Edward Sutch, 3rd Earl of Harrow; 10 November 1940 – 16 June 1999) was an English musician.  He was the founder of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party and served as its leader from 1983 to 1999, during which time he stood in numerous parliamentary elections.  He holds the record for losing more than 40 elections in which he stood.  As a singer he variously worked with Keith Moon, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Charlie Watts, and Nicky Hopkins.  (More from Wikipedia)

Many of the songs in the English Freakbeat Series were by musicians that became famous in later bands or in other contexts.  For instance, the English Freakbeat, Volume 3 CD has a song by the Raving Savages, who were the backing band for Screaming Lord Sutch

Greg Shaw included both sides of a December 1964 single by a band called the Lancasters on the English Freakbeat, Volume 2 CD, “Earthshaker” and “Satan’s Holiday”; both songs were co-written by Kim Fowley.  One of the members of the band was a young Ritchie Blackmore shortly after being in the backing band for Screaming Lord Sutch called the Savages and several years before he became one of the original bandmembers in Deep Purple
