LIKE A PRAYER

“Like a Prayer”  is a song recorded by American singer Madonna.  “Like a Prayer” is a pop rock song with elements of gospel music.  A choir provides background vocals that heighten the song’s spiritual nature, and a rock guitar keeps the music dark and mysterious.  Madonna introduced liturgical words in the lyrics — inspired by her Catholic upbringing — but changed the context in which they were used.  “Like a Prayer” was Madonna’s seventh number-one single on the United States’ Billboard Hot 100, and topped the singles charts in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and other countries.  Alongside its respective album, “Like a Prayer” has been considered a turning point in Madonna’s career, as she began to be viewed as an efficient businesswoman — someone who knew how to sell a concept.  (More from Wikipedia)

Without question, Patrick Leonard is the most prominent ex-bandmember of Trillion and is primarily known as a keyboard player, producer and songwriter in the early part of Madonna’s career.  He continued working with Madonna on her next studio album, Like a Prayer – Leonard co-wrote more than one-half of the songs on this album as well, including “Cherish”, “Oh Father” and the title song “Like a Prayer” (which formed the basis of one of Madonna’s most controversial music videos).

Andraé Crouch and the Los Angeles Church of God choir that he directed were prominently featured in the title song, Like a Prayer on Madonna’s Christian-themed album, Like a Prayer (1989).  He also performed in the Michael Jackson song “Man in the Mirror” (1987).
