PAUL YOUNG

Paul Young  (born 17 January 1956) is an English singer, songwriter and musician.  He is famous for hit singles such as "Love of the Common People", "Wherever I Lay My Hat", "Come Back and Stay", "Every Time You Go Away" and "Everything Must Change", all reaching the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart.  Released in 1983, his debut album No Parlez, the first of three UK number-one albums, made him a household name.  His smooth yet soulful voice belonged to a genre known as "blue-eyed soul".  At the 1985 Brit Awards, Young received the award for Best British Male.  In July 1985, Young appeared at Live Aid held at Wembley Stadium, London, performing the Band Aid hit "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (having sung the opening lines on the original single release), and his own hits "Come Back and Stay" and "Every Time You Go Away", with Alison Moyet joining him on stage to perform "That's The Way Love Is".  (More from Wikipedia)

Paul YoungBetween Two Fires – Paul Young is a leading blue-eyed soul singer from England who is best known for his #1 hit in 1985 “Every Time You Go Away” (written by Daryl Hall and included on the 1980 Daryl Hall and John Oates album Voices but never released as a single).  The album that I have, Between Two Fires garners only 2 stars from Allmusic, but I like hearing it.  Paul Young is also known for singing the opening lines in the 1984 UK Band Aid song, “Do They Know it’s Christmas?”.

Since I am down to a quarterly schedule rather than a monthly schedule, my annual list is a lot shorter, so I will try listing all of the people that I have discussed in some depth rather than just the Under Appreciated Rock Band and the Story of the Month. They are all punk rock bands of one kind or another this year (2015-2016), and the most recent post includes my overview of the early rap/hip hop scene that an old friend, George Konstantinow challenged me to write – probably so long ago that he might have forgotten.
