Octopus’s Garden

Highly Appreciated

OCTOPUS’S GARDEN

“Octopus's Garden”  is a song by the Beatles written and sung by Ringo Starr (credited to his real name Richard Starkey) from the Beatles’ 1969 album Abbey Road.  George Harrison, who assisted Starr with the song, commented:  “‘Octopus’s Garden’ is Ringo’s song.  It’s only the second song Ringo has ever written, mind you, and it’s lovely.”  He added that the song gets very deep into the listener’s consciousness “. . . because it’s so peaceful.  I suppose Ringo is writing cosmic songs these days without even realising it.”  It was the last song released by the Beatles featuring Starr on lead vocals.  (More from Wikipedia)

The Beatles also includes “Don't Pass Me By”; other than “Octopus’s Garden” (from Abbey Road), this is the only song written solely by Ringo Starr (listed under his real name, Richard Starkey as is normal in songwriting credits) that appears on an official Beatles album.  Starr also shares a songwriting credit with John Lennon and Paul McCartney on “What Goes On” (from Rubber Soul), and the instrumental “Flying” (on Magical Mystery Tour) shows all four bandmembers as the writers.
