New York

Greatly Appreciated

NEW YORK

New York  is the fifteenth solo album by Lou Reed, released early in 1989.  A universal critical success, it is widely considered one of his best solo albums.  The widespread popularity of New York reignited his career to the extent that he could revive the Velvet Underground for an aborted world tour.  The single “Dirty Blvd.” was a #1 hit on the newly created Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for four weeks.  Velvet Underground drummer Maureen Tucker played on two tracks.  (More from Wikipedia)

In 1989, he released his long-ranging album New York; as identified as Lou Reed is with New York City, he needed to bring the goods if he was going to use that album name, and does he ever.  Allmusic calls New York the finest solo album of Lou Reed’s career.
