Long John’s Blues

LONG JOHN’S BLUES

Long John’s Blues  was the début solo album by British blues singer Long John Baldry and his band, the Hoochie Coochie Men, featuring musicians who had previously played alongside Baldry in the Cyril Davies All-Stars.  The album featured a track list that he would continue to play at live shows throughout his career.  In 1995, Long John’s Blues / Looking at Long John was released on CD.  It has since been re-released and remastered on Looking at Long John: The UA Years.  The album had a vinyl reissue in 2009.  (More from Wikipedia)

The same night as their second single was released (October 15, 1964), the Soul Agents appeared at Soho’s Marquee Club with Long John Baldry and the Hoochie Coochie Men.  Allmusic says of the 1964 album by this group:  “One of the unsung jewels of the British R&B scene, Long John’s Blues is, astonishingly, the sole surviving document of what was, at one point, among the most exciting live acts on the entire circuit.”  Rod Stewart appears on banjo on this album.
